Fish oils, Omega 3's…what's all the fuss?

Let me help you understand all the hype.

Fish oils are popular these days because they contain a fatty acid known as omega-3.

Omega 3 cannot be produced by the body and must therefore be taken in through food or supplementation. But here's where it gets more exciting – these omega 3's help against inflammation, coronary heart disease, cancer and drum-roll please….helps with overall fat loss!!

Yay!!!

These fish oils have fat burning benefits that can cause your body to reduce the amount of body fat it stores. Omega-3 contains eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid and linolenic fatty acids. I have no idea what these are, but you will LOVE what they do! These fatty acids aid in the breakdown of fat AND reduce additional fat storage.

In looking at what the best foods are for you to consume, it's confusing. There are mixed answers and different studies show varying information. So here's what overall are the best to consume…

Flaxseeds, chia seeds, walnuts, brussel sprouts and cauliflower seem to be great vegetarian options (with flaxseeds and chia seeds being the best) and sardines, salmon, halibut, tuna, shrimp, mackerel, anchovies, and sardines are great for you carnivores like me.

So if you're feeling the need to reduce some of that body fat, head to your panry and fridge and eat some yummy omega rich foods (when you are hungry) or go purchase some great fish oil supplements.

Shopping Tip: If you want to go the supplement route – find a brand with a higher concentration of EPA and DHA so your body gets more of the health-promoting omega-3 in fewer capsules or teaspoons.
