As I look at one of the major trends over the last few years, that's seeping in to 2015, I want to warn you of the elimination diet trend.  Here's the skinny on elimination diets and weight gain dangers if you're an emotional eater

I often get asked how I feel about them, and to be honest, my answer is this – it depends – and I will tell you why….

For some people, they can handle a lifestyle and a way of eating that no longer includes sugar, dairy, wheat, or whatever the food item might be. Those people are typically NOT emotional eaters.

What's interesting is that I am seeing a new trend of clients coming to me who have attempted elimination diets with little success and increased weight gain.

Here's why… when you remove a whole litany of foods, you will lose weight. Yet, the emotional consequence of these elimination diets is not what's being addressed in my industry.

Yes, there may be wonderful health benefits in eliminating some of these foods from your diet, but we can't ignore what's happening on the mental and emotional level for the emotional eater.

For the emotional eater, when you deprive – the opposite effect is a binge! So please be very careful with these diets.

I too tried an elimination diet. I cut back on a whole slew of foods and although I lost six pounds quickly, I gained 15 because I mentally couldn't deal with not having certain foods.

To get rebalanced, I had to get back in to a non-diet way of thinking and eating to take me out of deprivation mode.

If you are an emotional eater, you need a different approach to slimming down – one that involves choice, options, and freedom with food like my 30 Day Blaster Challenge where I send you an email each day focused on how to cultivate a naturally thin relationship with food.
