If you're struggling to lose weight and you keep finding yourself turning to diets because you don't know what else to do, you've got to stop! The psychological and emotional implications of dieting are profound and often create an imbalance mentally.

Yes, there are some people who can sail through diets (less than 5%), just like there are some people who enjoy being told to do 100 burpies, but that is definitely not me and certainly not the norm for emotional eaters.

Diets are extremely difficult to stick to because they focus your mind consciously and unconsciously on the foods that you are not supposed to have and are often much to depriving in nature. It’s not realistic to never have a slice of cake again. It’s not realistic to only eat protein for the rest of your life. You know what does work? A program that can fit into your life now and addresses both your psychological and physical needs.” image-2=”” count=”3″ html=”true” css_class=””]

If you struggle with diets, emotional eating, or overeating patterns, you are not crazy or lack will-power – you are NORMAL. Diets suck the life and energy out of most people while are ineffective for lasting weight loss.

Here are six reasons you should stop dieting this minute….

1. Your Body Is Unique –
Most diets focus on a global eating plan for everyone. I remember doing a cleanse and on that cleanse I was told to avoid sugar dairy, gluten, wheat, EVERYTHING – yet I could have eggs and almonds. Come to find out I’m allergic to eggs and almonds and they actually don’t work well for my body. By following that plan, I was doing a fair amount of harm. When a diet tells you precisely what to eat, you have to wonder if it's in the best interest of your body.I encourage you to begin tuning into the wisdom and brilliance of your body so you can determine what foods make it feel amazing, what foods energize you and keep you focused and what foods break you down and steal your energy from you. Then YOU can decide what you want in your body – not a diet.

2. Diets Dishonor What We Desire Most –

You know what we desire most? Freedom! Most women who hire me as their coach are successful women who value freedom, options and choice in their lives and with food. Diets are the exact opposite of that! If you value freedom and choice, then diets simply crush your inner spirit by taking food options away.

3. You'll Gain It Back…and Then Some
The statistics are clear – diets don't work for over 95% of people! That's alarming considering how many people still attempt dieting each year.  When you end your diet, your weight will come running for your hips, thighs and tummy.  Why? When you diet, you fail to get to the source of why you’re struggling with your weight and turning to food.

For most people, the reason that they are overweight is tied to their emotions. If you are turning to food for emotional reasons, then it only makes sense to begin to figure out what you are masking by turning to food and overeating. Most emotional eaters and binge eaters turn to food for love and protection. When you begin to address this need for love or this longing for protection and safety, you then start to get to the soul of the REAL issue you are turning to food.

4. If you go ON, you will go OFF
If you’ve lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks by drinking only lemon water and chewing on celery sticks, how can you realistically maintain that? Cleanses, elimination diets, Ketogenic Diets and such, mean that if you’re “ON” something, then most likely your brain will crave you going “OFF” of it at some point. Programs that focus on long term lifestyle changes are much effective because they empower YOU to make the decision about what you put in your mouth and what works for your life.  After working with thousands of clients, I have found the best solution to weight is is a plan that works for both your mind and body, that fits into your life, and that empowers you! Anything you have to go on, means you will have to come off of, and that usually translates to added weight.

5. Diets are Depriving in Nature.

Sadly, dieting is often the cause of weight gain because they are depriving in nature and set you up to obtain the ‘good food’ and ‘bad food’ mentality which leads. When we feel ‘bad' about ourselves for eating certain foods, then we take it out on ourselves by eating. It's a vicious cycle and it's just another reason why I despise diets.

6. Dieting takes the enjoyment out of food.
I don't know about you, but I derive a great deal of pleasure from eating. But when I put tons of rules on one of my favorite things, it takes all the fun and enjoyment out of the experience – making me feel more drawn to food.

Food is meant to be enjoyed WHEN you’re hungry so as long as you’re listening to hunger, honoring YOUR body and eating foods that both your body and mind love, there’s just no good reason to diet.

If you're struggling with overeating, binge eating, emotional eat then the solution doesn't exist in trying to eliminate food, the solution exists in learning how to set your mind up properly by discovering the REAL reasons you're turning to food. Some questions to ask yourself are:

Why are you turning to food?
What are you really needing?
What are you emotionally craving from your life?

When you actually begin to address your emotional needs in new powerful ways, then you won't need a diet to lose weight, you will just put food back in it's “normal” place and food will become food.
